What did the new iDose TR and MIGS study find?

The study found that average eye pressure and average topical medication use decreased three months after patients received iDose TR® with either iStent Infinite or canaloplasty. At three months, 59.4% of the studied eyes were no longer using topical pressure-lowering medication.

Does iDose TR® eliminate glaucoma eye drops?

Not for everyone. Some patients may reduce or stop topical pressure-lowering medication after treatment, while others still need drops to reach their target eye pressure. Patients should never stop glaucoma medication without instructions from their eye doctor.

What is the difference between iDose TR® and MIGS?

iDose TR® is an implant that releases pressure-lowering medication inside the eye. MIGS refers to minimally invasive procedures that improve fluid drainage or reduce fluid production. The treatments work through different mechanisms and may be combined in selected patients.

Can iDose TR® and MIGS cure glaucoma?

No. These treatments may lower eye pressure and help reduce the risk of further optic nerve damage, but they do not cure glaucoma or restore vision already lost to the disease.

Can iDose TR® and MIGS be performed during cataract surgery?

Yes, some patients can receive iDose TR® and a MIGS procedure during cataract surgery. The decision depends on the patient’s glaucoma, cataracts, eye anatomy, pressure goals, and overall health.

Is every glaucoma patient a candidate for iDose TR® and MIGS?

No. A glaucoma specialist must review the type and severity of glaucoma, optic nerve health, eye pressure, previous treatment, drainage anatomy, and other medical factors before recommending a procedure.

Will I still need glaucoma checkups if I stop using drops?

Yes. Glaucoma requires lifelong monitoring. Patients still need eye-pressure measurements, optic nerve evaluation, visual field testing, and other follow-up care even when they are not using topical medication.
