Clinical Expertise
Dr. Sipperley is a highly experienced retina specialist with expertise in both medical and surgical management of retinal diseases. He joined Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in 2010, where he continues to provide advanced care for retinal patients while actively participating in clinical research. His extensive career includes roles as a staff retina surgeon, Director of Research, and senior partner at Retinal Consultants of Arizona, where he served until 2010.
Education
Dr. Sipperley earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1971. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1972. After serving as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Air Force (1972–1975), he returned to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for an ophthalmology residency, which he completed in 1978. He continued with a medical retinal fellowship, followed by a vitreoretinal fellowship in 1979. He then completed an additional fellowship at Duke University.
Accolades
Throughout his career, Dr. Sipperley has held several prestigious academic, clinical, and military leadership roles:
- Retinal Consultant for the U.S. Air Force (1979–1983)
- Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, Wilford Hall Medical Center (1982–1983)
- Staff Retina Surgeon and Director of Research at Devers Eye Institute and Casey Eye Institute
- Director of Research and Senior Partner at Retinal Consultants of Arizona (1986–2010)
He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the European VitreoRetinal Society (EVRS), and serves on the boards of the Arizona Ophthalmologic Society and the Western Retinal Study Club.
