Dr. Brendan Girschek, MD, FRCS(C), FACS, is a highly accomplished vitreoretinal surgeon with more than 15 years of dedicated experience in private medical and surgical retina practice. Board-certified in both the United States and Canada, he is widely recognized for his refined surgical expertise and commitment to delivering advanced, patient-centered care. Dr. Girschek specializes in the management of complex retinal conditions, including retinal detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. He also provides comprehensive care for challenging medical and surgical uveitis cases, offering a depth of expertise that is rare in the region.

As the only full-time retina surgeon serving northern Arizona, Dr. Girschek is proud to deliver high-level, accessible care to the region’s diverse population. His primary office and surgical center are located in Flagstaff, Arizona, with additional satellite clinics providing both clinical and surgical services in Show Low and Cottonwood.

Education and Medical Training

Dr. Girschek completed his ophthalmology residency at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans and an internship in Internal Medicine at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation. He pursued fellowship training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Charles Retina Institute/University of Tennessee in Memphis, under the direction of world-renowned retina surgeon Dr. Steve Charles.

Accolades

Dr. Girschek is dual board-certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He serves as an oral examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a contributing writer for Review of Optometry and Ophthalmology Management. He also reviews for the Retinal Physician journal. Dr. Girschek has presented at numerous professional meetings, including the American Academy of Optometry Retina SIG in 2023 and the Global Retina Summit in Canada in 2022.
