Eyelid Surgery

At Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center, Dr. Grant Moore creates personalized surgical plans intended to improve eyelid contour while preserving the natural characteristics that make you look like yourself.

What Is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic enhancement procedure that can rejuvenate the areas around your eyes and address many common aesthetic issues. At Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center, Dr. Grant Moore creates personalized surgical plans to enhance eyelid contour while preserving your natural appearance.

Dr. Moore is a board-certified, fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in the eyelids, eyebrows, forehead, eye socket, tear drainage system, and face. His understanding of both eye health and facial anatomy allows him to consider eyelid function, vision, comfort, and appearance when planning surgery.

Not every eyelid concern is caused by excess skin. A low eyebrow, weak eyelid-lifting muscle, dry eye, or another medical condition may contribute to the appearance or function of the eyelids. During your consultation, Dr. Moore will evaluate the entire area around your eyes to determine which treatment may be appropriate.

Signs You Might Be A Good Candidate

1

Age

The best candidates for an upper eyelid bleph are at least 30 years old, as saggy eyelid skin and wrinkles typically result from the natural aging process, except when these conditions are caused by genetics. Although young people can have these conditions, they usually develop after age 30.

2

General Good Health

It’s important to have a clean bill of health from your doctor before undergoing an eyelid lift. Ideal candidates are those without serious medical conditions that may jeopardize the healing process, such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

3

Good Eye Health

Several eye conditions beyond those addressed by upper eyelid surgery can disqualify you from undergoing the procedure. Individuals with excessively dry eyes, Graves’ disease, thyroid issues like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, and other eye diseases are generally discouraged from having eyelid lift surgery.

4

Healthy Lifestyle

Non-smokers are better candidates for eyelid surgery than smokers. Smoking can hinder the healing process, increase the risk of infection, and worsen inflammation, which can make recovery longer and more uncomfortable.

Schedule a Cosmetic Consultation

Dr. Moore warmly welcomes you to an initial consultation to discuss eyelid surgery, helping you determine if this transformative procedure aligns with your goals.

What to Expect During a Blepharoplasty Consultation

A blepharoplasty consultation is essential before eyelid surgery, as it helps determine if the procedure is right for you. Meeting with a qualified plastic surgeon ensures you receive a thorough evaluation of your condition and a clear understanding of the potential risks and benefits.

The surgeon will begin by discussing your medical history, listening to your concerns, and understanding your aesthetic and functional goals. They will then conduct a detailed examination of your upper eyelids to assess your candidacy for the procedure.

Understanding the Procedure

If you’re deemed a suitable candidate, your doctor will explain the details of the blepharoplasty procedure, including what to expect during recovery, potential risks, and the anticipated benefits of the surgery.

By the end of the consultation, you should feel informed and confident about your options, which will help you make the best decision for your needs.
