Scott A. Perkins is one of the most experienced eye surgeons in the country. He has performed more than 75,000 cataract surgeries and more than 15,000 LASIK and 1,200 ICL vision correction procedures for Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center patients. He has been with the practice since its inception in 1993 and currently serves as its medical director and managing partner. Known for his compassion and ability to make patients feel comfortable, Dr. Perkins is also routinely recognized as a leading and respected physician. He was selected for inclusion on the Super Doctors list for 2013 and 2012 by Key Professional Media. And was named one of “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2008.
Dr. Perkins is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is also a founding member of the American – European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgeons. He has conducted clinical research in several areas of ophthalmology, including advanced technology intraocular lenses. He serves on the Board of Directors for Arizona Visionaries, a donor-driven non-profit organization that provides cataract surgery and eyeglass fittings in third-world countries. He enjoys volunteering his time and skills for the benefit of less fortunate people.
Dr. Perkins grew up in Cape Cod, Mass., playing the cello and participating on the debate team in high school. He is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed a clinical fellowship in ophthalmology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and his residency in ophthalmology at Boston University Medical Center.
Dr. Perkins enjoys weight training and just about every outdoor activity, including hiking and mountain biking. He has two sons. One who joined Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in August 2014 after graduating from Optometry school and completing his residency in Reno, NV. His other son is also pursuing a career in Optometry and is attending Optometry School in Glendale, Arizona.
