Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center is the first practice in the Southwest to offer STAAR Surgical’s EVO Visian ICL Lenses.
What are EVO Visian ICL Lenses?
EVO Visian ICL, also called an Implantable Collamer® Lens, is a refractive implant to correct common vision issues like myopia (nearsightedness) with or without astigmatism. Unlike some other vision correction options, the EVO Visian ICL is an additive technology that corrects vision without the removal of any corneal tissue. The EVO Visian ICL is meant to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contacts and unlike most permanent refractive solutions, EVO Visian ICL is removable by your doctor, for added peace of mind.
What is the significance of EVO?
Myopia (or nearsightedness) is the most common ocular disorder worldwide and its incidence is increasing significantly. Anestimated 30% of the world’s population, or 2.6 billion people, have myopia and this number is projected to rise to 50% of the global population by the year 2050. For many people, contact lenses and eyeglasses can be limiting for those who seek visual freedom and want to better observe the natural beauty of the world around them. EVO can offer a solution for those who seek sharp, clear vision and want to break free from the limitations of contacts or eyeglasses.
What are the key benefits to EVO?
The EVO lens is additive; meaning, it is implanted in the eye and doesn’t remove corneal tissue. The EVO lens works in harmony with the natural eye while delivering sharp, clear vision, excellent night vision, UV protection, and does not cause dry eye syndrome. If desired, the EVO lens is removable by a doctor providing patients added peace of mind. The EVO Visian ICL procedure is a 20-30 minute outpatient procedure per eye with quick recovery and little downtime typically. Following the procedure, many patients notice an immediate improvement in vision.
What does the procedure entail?
The EVO lens is slightly smaller than a typical contact lens and is implanted in the eye between the iris (colored part of the eye) and the natural lens for vision correction. The EVO Visian ICL procedure is a 20-30 minute outpatient procedure per eye with quick recovery and little downtime typically. EVO ICL is often suitable for patients that are not candidates for laser vision correction, especially those with thin corneas as it does not require the removal of any corneal tissue. Following the procedure many patients notice an immediate improvement in vision.
