Clinical Expertise
Dr. Josh Perkins is a residency-trained medical optometrist who has been practicing at Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center’s Phoenix location since 2014. His primary focus is on ocular health and the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye diseases, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. He also provides pre- and post-operative surgical care in collaboration with the practice’s retina, glaucoma, cornea, oculoplastics, and cataract surgeons. In addition, Dr. Perkins routinely performs cataract evaluations and guides patients through candidacy, expectations, lens options, and advanced technologies related to cataract surgery.
Education and Medical Training
Dr. Perkins earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona, achieving Dean’s List With Distinction. He went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree from Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry in 2013 as part of its inaugural class. He furthered his training through a residency in ocular disease and primary eye care at the Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Health Care System in Reno, Nevada, an affiliate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.
Accolades
As a second-generation provider at the practice and son of founding partner Dr. Scott Perkins, MD, Dr. Perkins carries forward a strong family legacy in eye care. He is a member of the Arizona Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Personal Interests
Dr. Perkins has lived in Phoenix since the age of six and is proud to call Arizona home. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, as well as hiking, backpacking, skiing, playing chess, and even practicing underwater basket weaving. He is honored to serve the community by preserving and improving vision, which he considers one of life’s most essential gifts.
