At Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center, we are proud to feature the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser for our LASIK refractive surgery procedures. The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser combines some of the most advanced LASIK concepts and technology available today, which means your LASIK experience will be fast, comfortable, and safe.
One of the things that sets the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser apart from other lasers is its use of PerfectPulse™ technology. Because the laser moves with such speed, PerfectPulse™ technology was developed to precisely monitor and manage the movement and placement of each laser pulse.
During LASIK refractive surgery, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser is used by our doctors in Phoenix and around Arizona. This advanced laser places thousands of individual laser pulses across the surface of the cornea. Each tiny pulse removes a small amount of corneal tissue, with the end result being a newly reshaped cornea that helps light entering the eye to focus better.
To minimize corneal heating, PerfectPulse™ technology ensures that only one in five laser pulses overlap the one before it. In addition, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser features a laser beam that is only one millimeter wide. This smaller-than-average laser provides a smooth corneal surface that reduces the chance of so-called higher order aberrations such as visible haloes around lights and glare at night.
Even when you think you are holding your eyes still, they are still moving imperceptibly. Involuntary muscle movements, breathing, and even your heartbeat contribute to your eye's movement during LASIK refractive surgery with the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser. We choose to use the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® because of its superior eyetracking capabilities.
During your LASIK procedure, the position of your eye is checked 200 times per minute, allowing the mirrors within the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser to make minute adjustments to the angle of the laser beam. Even after the adjustments have been made, one final check occurs before the laser pulse is released. Additional eye movement will cancel the laser pulse until all the equipment is aligned properly. Your safety and satisfaction are our top goals.
The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser is capable of delivering up to 200 fine laser pulses each second, or one every four to six milliseconds. The result of such a fast laser is that you spend a minimal amount of time in the treatment chair. In fact, the average patient needing three diopters of correction can expect to be treated in 10 seconds per eye.
Your cornea is not a perfect sphere. Older incarnations of LASIK refractive surgery however, did not take this factor into account. The development of the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser allows customized adjustments to the unique curves of each of your eyes.
Using detailed measurements of your eye, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser uses Wavefront™ technology to apply the right amount of laser energy to different parts of your eye. For example, laser pulses directed at the front of your cornea are delivered with less power than pulses directed at the edges of your cornea. The reason for this is that laser energy is weaker at an angle – after adjustments made by the laser's computer, all areas of your eye will receive equally powered laser pulses.
The result of Wavefront™ optimized LASIK refractive surgery is that our Phoenix, Arizona patients report fewer higher-order aberrations than LASIK patients who were treated with different lasers.
Though tools like the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® laser are important, LASIK refractive surgery at our practice in Phoenix Arizona is outstanding because of the knowledge and compassion of our surgeons.
